We would personally always suggest the Rechargable Battery to be used as a last resort. We would strongly recommend the Invisible Wire system as a much better way to get power to your picture lights. with the Invisible wire system you do need to paint over the copper track - this will not work with wallpapered walls. An alternative is our ThinWire - see the Power option page.

:: Hanging

Hanging paintings correctly is very important. A painting should hang away from the wall ( at the top ) by 1 - 2 inches. This is to ensure that dust in the air does not settle on the canvas. On old paintings corks from wine bottles were glued to the back of the frame at the top. This also reduces the reflection from windows and lights.

In the 18th & 19th century ( before picture lights ) frames were designed to reduce dust settlement and the ornate additions and angles were to help throw light across the canvas. Gilding enhanced this effect.

:: Wiring for Lights

The best solution for lighting paintings is to have the electric available behind the painting/s in a recess box.

This is normally installed by an electrician and hard wired into a box. We do not fit plugs on our Hard Wire option. The switch for the lighting can be by the entrance door. Individual paintings can then have a bulb with a wattage that suits the painting. All our transformers have different intensity settings.

Our lights can be dimmed if there is an automatic lighting system like Lutron or Crestron.
